ACE COMBAT 8 Mission 7: A Lifeline in the Desert
Published
Clear A Lifeline in the Desert by turning reachable target clusters into score, conserving ammunition and planning return-line resupply. Follow the score requirement on your current HUD.

Clear Mission 7: the sortie plan
A Lifeline in the Desert is a timed destruction-score mission. Read the target score on your current HUD, work through clusters you can reach efficiently, and keep enough time to convert remaining ammunition into points.
- 1Before launch, pick an unlocked aircraft and special weapon suited to repeated surface attacks. Check the briefing and the displayed score objective.
- 2On entry, identify the nearby facility clusters and the return line. Choose a reachable cluster with a clean attack angle.
- 3Strike explosive objects where visible, then reassess the surviving targets. Avoid firing a second volley into a cluster already destroyed by the blast.
- 4Move to the next nearby cluster while checking score, time and ammunition. Engage aircraft when they threaten your run or present a quick opportunity.
- 5If weapons are limiting the next attack and time permits, cross the return line to replenish. Re-enter with a clear next destination.
- 6As you approach the HUD requirement, finish reachable targets instead of making a long empty transit. When the objective changes, follow the current HUD/radio instructions.
Pick a target cluster, then move on
This priority rule is Game Onramp’s tactical inference from the documented destruction mechanics: prefer reachable groups that produce several useful hits per pass. It is not a fixed route or a claim that every cluster has the same value.
| Target group | Opening approach | Reason to move on |
|---|---|---|
| Oil/refinery structures | Look for exposed flammable objects and nearby buildings. | After the blast, target survivors instead of the original cluster center. |
| Ammunition facilities | Attack a clean visible target; reassess after secondary destruction. | If a target will not take damage, check the entry angle rather than repeating the same pass. |
| Solar plant / lighter structures | Use a controlled pass and conserve valuable special ammunition when lighter weapons suffice. | Do not circle a cleared sector while intact clusters remain nearby. |
| Air base and aircraft | Take parked/exposed targets when aligned; handle a pursuing aircraft if it prevents a safe pass. | Avoid a long chase away from the surface objective. |
Facility orientation and the tunnel target
Independent reportingAn independent campaign guide places the solar plant north, airfield west, ammunition storage east and refinery south. Use those as orientation cues, then verify the target labels on your own radar before committing to a long transit.
That guide also reports an ammunition target inside a hillside tunnel. If an overhead pass fails, look for the opening and set up an approach toward the entrance. Break off if the approach is unsafe; do not keep expending missiles on the roof.
When a return-line resupply is worth it
Resupply helps when fresh weapons unlock a productive next pass. It costs transit time, so decide from remaining ammunition, the score gap and the distance to both the line and your next target group.
| Current situation | Practical next move |
|---|---|
| Low ammunition; substantial time and intact clusters remain | Plan the return-line trip now, with a target destination ready for re-entry. |
| Close to the score requirement; nearby targets remain | Use the remaining weapons on reachable targets before spending time on a distant resupply. |
| Plenty of weapons; score rising slowly | Change target selection or attack angle. Reloading does not solve inefficient passes. |
| Little time; no productive nearby targets | Commit to the closest plausible scoring pass and use the failed run to plan a shorter route next time. |
If the mission keeps failing
| Run fails because… | Change one thing next time |
|---|---|
| Timer expires below the HUD score target | Reduce travel between sectors and target surviving clusters, not isolated contacts at the edge of the map. |
| Missiles run out too early | Check whether blasts already removed adjacent structures; reserve special weapons for targets that justify them. |
| One target resists repeated attacks | Check target selection and angle. For the reported tunnel depot, inspect the hillside opening. |
| Enemies interrupt every attack run | Clear the immediate threat before another surface pass; keep your loadout capable of that interruption. |
| Score target is met but the mission continues | Follow the current HUD objective and stay in control until the mission resolves; do not assume every remaining red contact is mandatory. |
Mission 7 questions
What score do I need? Use the requirement shown on your current HUD. The independent guide’s 24,000-point example is one documented context, not a universal build/difficulty rule.
Do I have to destroy every target? Work toward the active objective, then follow the mission update; a remaining contact is not itself proof that the score requirement is unmet.
Can I replenish weapons? The official reveal describes a return line for replenishment during the mission.
Which aircraft should I use? Start with your unlocked aircraft’s surface-target weapons and ammunition, then choose handling you can control consistently.
Why attack oil tanks? Official material describes explosions damaging surrounding structures. After the blast, check what is still alive before spending another shot.
