Flight-stick diagnosis
ACE COMBAT 8 HOTAS & Flight Stick Support
Published

What the launch support notice means
Official patchThe September 30 notice acknowledges missing configuration options for some devices. Recognition, a usable axis layout and full rebinding are three separate checks. If flying works but a mapping control is absent, repeated driver reinstalls may not solve that game-level limitation.
Check your exact device and platform
Official sourceMatch the edition printed on the hardware to your gaming platform. The accessory listings also mention older consoles; ACE COMBAT 8 itself is listed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. HORI lists an October release window, so check local availability and the current manual.
| ACE8 device | PC | PS5 | Xbox Series X|S |

Diagnose the symptom before changing settings
Official patchOfficial sourceThis is a diagnostic sequence, not a device-tested preset. Change one setting at a time so a useful result can be reversed or reproduced.
| What you see | Next action | What the result tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Windows cannot see the stick | Open Windows game-controller settings (joy.cpl), check each USB device and use the manufacturer driver/support instructions. | Resolve device detection before investigating ACE8 mappings. |
| Windows axes respond; ACE8 does not | Check the platform/mode switch against the manual. Close the game before changing modes, reconnect, then retest with extra controllers disconnected. | Separate an input-mode conflict from an unsupported game mapping. |
| Plane responds, but the wrong axis moves | Center the device, check axis movement in Windows, and compare one axis at a time with the in-game response. | Record the exact axis conflict; recognition alone is not complete compatibility. |
| Usable stick; missing rebinding or sensitivity | Keep the working setup, record the absent option and read the current official notice. | The game team has acknowledged configuration gaps. |
| Still unusable after basic checks | Use a working gamepad to continue; send the platform, model, mode and symptom to official support. | Avoid spending the session repeatedly changing the same settings. |
A clean PC retest
Official patchOfficial sourceUse the hardware manufacturer’s instructions for firmware changes. Keep a known working configuration rather than stacking several utilities at once.
- 1Write down the game update/date, stick and throttle models, USB layout and current input mode. Photograph your existing settings before changing them.
- 2Check each connected device in joy.cpl. If an axis does not respond there, use the device maker’s official driver, firmware or calibration guidance.
- 3Exit ACE8. Confirm the platform switch/mode using the device manual, disconnect unrelated controllers and launch with the simplest layout.
- 4Test pitch, roll, yaw, throttle, target selection and firing separately. Note which work, which are reversed and which are absent.
- 5If Windows responds correctly but ACE8 still fails, restore your original configuration and report the reproducible mismatch. A gamepad is the practical fallback while waiting for input improvements.
Community reports for other flight sticks
Community-reportedThese are player reports checked on October 4, not Game Onramp hardware tests. Steam Input and virtual-controller workarounds in the thread are unofficial and can change after patches. If you experiment, save the original settings and verify online-game rules before using third-party tools.
| Setup | Launch-week report | How to use the report |
|---|---|---|
| Thrustmaster T16000M | Some players report detection after drivers/restart, with missing customization. | Compare their platform and exact hardware; do not assume a complete mapping. |
| VKB Gladiator / STECS | Multiple players report no out-of-box response. | If OS input works, record the game mismatch and monitor official updates. |
| Other models and combined devices | No comprehensive official list in the checked notice. | Seek an exact model/platform report, rather than generalizing from another stick. |
When to stop and report
Official patchA missing configuration option is a reason to follow the input-support notice, not a reason to reset campaign progress. The September 30 notice gives no delivery date for improvements.
- Platform and exact game update/date.
- Stick, throttle and rudder model; USB connections and selected device mode.
- Whether Windows detects each axis/button and what ACE8 does differently.
- The smallest repeatable test and the settings changed; avoid sending account credentials.
HOTAS questions
Official patchOfficial sourceCommunity-reportedDoes detection mean full support? No. Check axis behavior, button mapping and available customization separately.
Will an AC7 setup carry over? Confirm it on your actual device; the team explicitly acknowledges differences in available options.
Does HORI support PC? Its listing specifies Windows 11 and XInput/DirectInput, while noting that Sony does not test or guarantee PC compatibility.
Should I install a remapper first? Start with platform/mode and OS detection checks. Community tools are optional experiments, with no universal success promise.
Is there a patch date? The checked September 30 flight-stick notice provides no ETA.
