Dressmaker Off-the-Rack: How to Unlock, Make and Sell Dresses
Published
Off-the-Rack is introduced after your third commission. Open the Sketchbook, switch to a free-design page, and choose Make a New Dress. Complete the normal drafting, cutting, mannequin, and sewing steps; choose Finish Dress, continue through the photo, then use the game-calculated Sell dress quote. A commission on a different Sketchbook page is not deleted.
Off-the-Rack is the free-design route: you choose the garment without a customer brief, complete it, and sell the finished dress for Coin.
This guide separates the visible Build 410 workflow from pricing claims that current evidence does not establish.

When Off-the-Rack unlocks and where to find it
Independent reportingCurrent independent walkthroughs agree that Off-the-Rack is introduced after the third commission. Open the Sketchbook and flip through the page tabs until you reach the free-design page or Make a New Dress action.
If the option does not appear, finish the third commission, check every Sketchbook page, and return to the book before assuming progression is broken. The exact animation frame is not a reliable checkpoint.
How to make and sell an Off-the-Rack dress
Independent reportingUse the same physical dressmaking loop as a commission, but without a customer brief. The sell choice appears after the dress is physically complete and the photo step has finished.
- 1Open the Sketchbook and choose the free-design page or Make a New Dress.
- 2Choose the garment components and draft the design.
- 3Buy or select fabric and accessories, including suitable leftovers if you have them.
- 4Lay out and cut every pattern piece.
- 5Place every piece on the mannequin.
- 6Sew every required seam and complete the finishing work.
- 7Choose Finish Dress and continue through the photo.
- 8Review the game-calculated quote, then choose Sell dress or keep working if the current screen offers that choice.
Commission vs Off-the-Rack
The two dress types can coexist on different Sketchbook pages. Opening a free-design page does not mean the active commission was erased; flip through the page tabs to switch back.
| Choice | Commission | Off-the-Rack |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Satisfy a customer brief | Create a free-design dress |
| Sketchbook | Its own active page | A separate free-design page |
| Constraints | Budget and stated requirements | Your available design and materials |
| Completion | Deliver for the commission result | Review the quote and choose Sell dress |
What the sale quote shows
Independent reportingCurrent completion screens visibly break the quote into Materials, Labour, Quality Bonus, and Prestige Bonus. The game calculates and shows the quote; you do not type a markup or negotiate with a buyer on this screen.
Current gameplay supports those visible line items, but not a universal labour rate, rounding rule, or full arithmetic model. A lower or higher quote is an outcome to compare with your material spend, not proof of a fixed profit rule.
Pages that describe player-set markup, price tags, dress-rack placement, or passive walk-in buyers do not match the observed current sell flow.
- Materials
- Labour
- Quality Bonus
- Prestige Bonus
Use Off-the-Rack when you are low on Coin
Players use Off-the-Rack to turn suitable excess or mistakenly purchased materials into a completed dress, sell it, and then return to the commission. This can reduce the cost of a material mistake, but profit is not guaranteed.
Free burlap is a community-reported low-coin fallback. Check that it is available in your current build, keep the design small, and compare the displayed quote with any extra spending before committing more Coin.
- 1Check whether your active commission is still on another Sketchbook page.
- 2Use suitable leftovers before buying more material.
- 3If you have almost no Coin, check whether free burlap is currently available.
- 4Finish the dress and read the quote before treating the recovery as successful.
- 5Return to the commission page after selling.
Off-the-Rack troubleshooting
Option not showing: complete the third commission, then inspect every Sketchbook tab for the free-design page.
Commission looks gone: flip through all active pages; an Off-the-Rack draft can hide the commission without deleting it.
Finish Dress is missing: confirm every pattern piece was cut and placed, every seam is sewn, and all finishing work is complete. If a piece vanished, use the one-reload recovery branch rather than repeatedly reloading.
Quote is lower than expected: compare the visible line items and your material spend. Do not add more paid accessories based on an unverified recipe.
Frequently asked questions
Independent reportingWhen does Off-the-Rack unlock? Current walkthrough evidence places its introduction after the third commission.
Do I set the selling price myself? No. The current completion screen calculates and shows the sale quote.
Can I make one while a commission is active? Yes. Use a separate Sketchbook page, then switch back to the commission page.
Can free burlap help when I have no Coin? Players report using it for a low-cost recovery dress, but availability and the final quote should be checked in the current build.
What changes the quote? The visible screen lists Materials, Labour, Quality Bonus, and Prestige Bonus; no complete current-build formula is claimed here.
Does Style directly multiply the sale price? The current visible quote evidence does not establish Style as a direct line item, so use the displayed quote instead of assuming a multiplier.
Are dresses sold passively from a rack? Not in the observed completion flow: selling is a direct choice on the completed-dress screen.
