PLAY WITH FRIENDS
Star Wars: Galactic Racer Multiplayer & Crossplay Guide
Published
Crossplay is supported through EOS. Speeders race with up to 12 players; Podracers with up to 8. Steam needs the EOS library, and Epic sign-in is required to manage non-Steam friends.
Use the setup checks below before inviting friends. Party size, private matches and local split-screen have separate limits.

- Speeder races
- Up to 12 players
- Podracer races
- Up to 8 players
- Crossplay
- Epic Online Services
- Offline play
- Campaign · Scenarios · Arcade
Player counts and offline modes
Official sourceRace capacity is different from party capacity. A 12-player race does not mean twelve friends can join as one party. Use the official race limits below, then check the launch-review party detail before organizing a group.
| Feature | Launch support | Requirement or limit |
|---|---|---|
| Speeder races | Up to 12 online players | Internet connection required. |
| Podracer races | Up to 8 online players | Dedicated Podracer events; use the Podracing guide for access. |
| Cross-platform play | Supported through EOS | Steam requires the EOS redistributable. |
| Campaign / Scenarios / Arcade events | Playable offline | Connected Arcade leaderboards need online access. |
| Arcade leaderboards | Friends only | Your best time is shown to friends; this is not a public leaderboard. |
Steam, EOS and Epic accounts: what you need
Official sourceThe EOS redistributable and Epic account sign-in do different jobs. The developer says the EOS library is required before the Steam game launches and enables crossplay. Signing in to Epic is required when you want to manage non-Steam friends.
- 1Launch the installed game from Steam. If prompted, install the EOS redistributable through the game’s official launch flow.
- 2Check that EOS is present before trying cross-platform multiplayer. The FAQ says Steam does not offer an optional-install opt-out.
- 3For a friend outside Steam, sign in to an Epic Games account so cross-platform friend management and invites are available.
- 4Use the game’s friend and invite features to form your group, then join the appropriate online racing mode. Exact menu labels may vary by platform.
Party size and private matches at launch
Independent reportingTraxion’s October 2 review reports parties of up to three entering public lobbies, with no private-match option in the reviewed build. For a larger group, check the current in-game party limit before relying on a shared lobby; neither the 12-player race cap nor the 8-player Podracer cap establishes a party size.
Treat those lobby details as review-build observations. The developer FAQ confirms race counts and crossplay but does not publish a party cap or private-lobby policy.
Can two people play on one screen?
Independent reportingNo local split-screen is supported. In Traxion’s August 20 interview, Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster explained the technical trade-off; the October launch review also reports its absence. Plan friend play around separate systems and the online modes.
If cross-platform friend play does not work
Official sourceCheck account and software prerequisites before changing installations. These are safe checks based on the developer FAQ, rather than a diagnosed fix for a specific launch error.
- 1Confirm both players are connected and trying an online multiplayer mode, rather than an offline Arcade event.
- 2On Steam, verify that the required EOS library installed successfully. Use official installation prompts or storefront file verification if that install failed.
- 3Confirm Epic sign-in when managing friends outside Steam. Steam friend access alone does not establish cross-platform friend management.
- 4Check the current party limit and the chosen vehicle event. Up to 8 Podracers and up to 12 speeders describe race capacity, not a guaranteed private group.
- 5If the invitation still fails, note the platform pair, game version and step that failed, then use the official support link from the developer or storefront.
Do I need Epic sign-in just because I bought the Steam version?
Official sourceThe FAQ separates the requirements: the EOS library is required for Steam launch and crossplay, while Epic account sign-in is required to manage non-Steam friends. For cross-platform invitations, complete both of those prerequisites.
Can eight friends form one Podracing party?
Independent reportingEight is the official online Podracer race limit. It does not establish an eight-person party. Traxion’s launch review found three-person parties in public lobbies; check the current party interface before arranging a larger group.
Should I use Arcade to compete asynchronously with friends?
Official sourceYes, if your goal is comparing best times rather than racing together live. Connected Arcade leaderboards show times to friends. For a live race, use multiplayer and its EOS friend and invite features instead.
Does adding a second controller enable couch multiplayer?
Independent reportingNo. The developer interview reported by Traxion confirms the absence of local split-screen. A second controller does not replace the separate systems and online connection needed for friend play.
Can I keep playing when I cannot get online?
Official sourceYes: Campaign, Scenarios and Arcade events work offline. Online multiplayer and connected Arcade leaderboard features need connectivity. For offline Podracing, try Arcade rather than waiting for an online invitation.
